Kauai Day 1

Kauai - Day One = Sunday May 3rd

We had a flight on Hawaiian from Maui direct to Kauai. We were given the option of upgrading, which might seem silly for such a short flight... but we are traveling with more luggage than usual so it was a wash in terms of expense.

Car rental booked in advance with Alamo... reasonable rate and I checked in before we left Maui, I didn't have a printer available but the confirmation on my phone worked just great. After arriving and gathering your bags head out the airport building and there are vans on a bay just a short walk -less than half a block - that take you to the rental buildings. The driver loaded and unloaded all our bags.... great service. Maybe a total of 10 mins and we were on our way.

We headed to costco and gathered up some food and water to have on hand. They had sweet soft side coolers so we grabbed one and ice to keep things cool. I had read in a travelers post on TripAdvisor a tip about finding a great deal on Maui Jim sunglasses here.... yep... great deal $89 for a pair that were $315 in a shop.

We are staying North Shore so we started heading that way - very ready for some lunch. Just up the road in Kapaa is the Olympic Cafe. On the list as a place to go.... oh really good! We ordered the brie, avacado and sundried tomato bruschetta very tasty. Then we split a kalua pork sandwich - it was plenty for both of us and so good. Bikini Blond beer was a nice light match. Really Good - Put Olympic Cafe on your list.

Shave Ice stop just downstairs at Hee Fat. Lava Flow... you can request that it be made with all real fruit instead of the syrup and it was really good. They are huge... so we shared one.

Hula Girl is a really cute shop just next door. so I did a little supporting of the local economy.

Off we go and we come upon... well in truth we passed and then turned around and went back to the Hanalei Overlook. This is the view you have seen in many pictures that looks out across the Taro fields with the mountains in the background. Stunning!

TIP - if the sun is shining on something you may want to see during your trip.... stop and soak it up. Because in Kauai, if you leave it for another day you may well be soaking up the rain and little view.

We continued on to our Airbnb = and this sweet little gem deserves a post of its own. I can see the sun rising over the water.... so i'll hop off here for now.

Wanted to add a couple shots from "our beach "

first day... was awesome!
